1.    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

University “Haxhi Zeka” announces the 2024/25 Call for “SCIENTIFIC/ARTISTIC RESEARCH PROJECTS”. Subject to the availability of funds, UHZ will award grants as described below to academic staff. The program seeks to support academic and administrative staff in their pursuit of innovative and impactful research projects that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the development of artistic expression. This initiative aims to foster a vibrant research culture within the university, encouraging collaboration, creativity, and excellence. Grants will be awarded to projects that demonstrate significant potential for scholarly or artistic merit, addressing contemporary challenges and contributing to societal well-being. The funding is intended to provide resources for essential research activities, including fieldwork, materials, equipment, and dissemination of findings. Academic and administrative staff are encouraged to submit proposals that align with UHZ’s strategic priorities and contribute to its mission of promoting teaching, research, and contribution to society as well as endorse intellectual and cultural growth.

2.    PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

With funding opportunities, the university “Haxhi Zeka” seeks to support its academic and administrative staff and students.  Through the call general objective is:

  • To foster and enhance the three priority components of the university “Haxhi Zeka” in teaching, research, and contribution to society through project outcomes.

The specific objectives of the call are:

  1. Liaise higher education with market needs and demands through scientific research
  2. Introducing academic activities to contribute to the community aiming for socio-economic wellbeing
  3. Research contemporary and innovative teaching concepts and methodologies.

Proposals should articulate a clear strategic rationale for how it advances policies and priorities set by the university “Haxhi Zeka”.

The project proposal must be from the following specific fields:

  1. Circular economy
  2. Green economy
  3. Sustainable tourism
  4. Digital transformation in HEIs
  5. Sustainable development and innovation in Arts[1]

3. AVAILABLE GRANTS AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Decision Date: The call is open until 02/09/2024

The deadline for the preliminary results of project proposals is the last week of September 2024.

Duration of the project: 12 to 24 months.

The project covers these costs related to the project:

  • Special equipment (laboratory equipment, consumables, software, books, etc.),
  • Short-term visits,
  • Conference where the results of the beneficiary project are presented,
  • Travel costs,
  • Costs of fieldwork,
  • External expert (if needed)

3.1 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  1. The project proposal must be multidisciplinary and include at least two (2) academic units of UHZ
  2. Application completed and signed by the project coordinator;
  3. The Project Coordinator and the involved staff must be regular personnel of UHZ;
  4. The coordinator must have a PhD title (or equivalent at the Faculty of Arts);
  5. The coordinator must have at least one scientific paper published in journals indexed in Web of Science or Scopus as the first author in the last three years;
  6. A field expert from abroad (if needed);
  7. Inclusion of 1 administrative staff of UHZ;
  8. Inclusion of at least two bachelor or master-level students;
  9. Inclusion of 1 staff from the Institute of Science and Arts;
  10. Affidavit from the project coordinator that the project has never been realized before in any form;
  11. Declaration under oath by each participant/member separately in the project where he/she pledges to engage in the activities foreseen by the project;
  12. CVs (Europass template recommended) of all participants engaged in the project;
  13. Project submitted in physical and electronic form in English – Albanian and/or Bosnian language.

University “Haxhi Zeka” under this call cannot fund the following activities:

  • Staff salaries for project personnel of UHZ involved (can be reimbursed for their incurred expenses during project, ex. Field research costs)
  • Research studies taking place outside the territory of the Republic of Kosova
  • Humanitarian or charitable activities, including direct social services to the public
  • Organizations with political affiliation, affiliation to elected officials, or religious groups
  • Individual trips abroad,
  • Trade activities

4. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE EVALUATION PROCEDURE

Grant Awarding Phases

The evaluation for the call for projects 2024/25 is carried out by the university panel members in two rounds.

  • In the first round, the administrative/technical aspect of project proposals will be evaluated.
  • In the second round, the members independently evaluate the project proposals and assess them with points, assessing according to personal assessment for each criterion established in the project proposal, based on the data available in the project application.

The review panel will consist of subject matter experts.

NOTE: Only project ideas that pass the first round of administrative/technical checks will proceed to the content evaluation in the second round. A project proposal may meet the general acceptance threshold but may be evaluated poorly, in cases where the research idea does not offer a perspective for its successful implementation and does not adhere to the general strategic objectives of the UHZ.
